Nightflight

The shadows smile through my window,
gently scratching the pane,
crawl through the cracks
nestle under my blanket
close to my back,
whispering in my ear.

I feel your breath,
I hear your sighs,
reminding me
to live my life,
but I don’t know
how to do that today.

My shadows hum the lullabies
that I used to sing for you,
painting crazy pictures in Cinemascope
that bring to life the days long gone
when the windows didn’t need little cracks
and I didn’t wonder where you were.

I feel your breath,
I hear your sighs,
reminding me
to live my life,
but I don’t know
how to do that today.

There was always enough sun for the both of us
while we shared the soaking wet rainbows
always sliding hard along the blade
on the fast slippery road of mania
you were always so much taken for granted in my life.
So much taken for granted you were in my life.

I feel your breath,
I hear your sighs,
reminding me
to live my life,
but I don’t know
how to do that today.

While morning sun is painting
colorful stories in my gray
the shadows retreat by the cracks,
waving goodbye through the window pane,
their promise just for me,
they will come back again.

I feel your breath,
I hear your sighs,
reminding me
to live my life,
but I don’t know
how to do that today.

I do not know
how to live today.
